The Subaru Forester Branches Out

In building the Subaru Forester, Subaru chose to focus under the skin, rather than make sweeping changes to the look… Changes to the front-end are subtle, and include new grille, headlight shape and bonnet. Back-end redesign is more obvious and has something of a narrowing effect on the car’s visual impact. Redesigned window openings and reshaped A-pillars are claimed to reduce wind noise, and the Forester now sports a more aerodynamic shape.

All Foresters are equipped with air-conditioning, CD player, cruise control, remote central locking, power windows and mirrors, and 16inch wheels and tyres.

.Stepping inside reveals a far more appealing visage than before, with better looking and feeling materials and an updated dash design. Getting positioned in the driver’s seat is easy with the steering column now having a greater adjustment range and the seat being adjustable for height.

Rear seat room is more generous in the Forester and an upward-opening, single-piece tailgate provides access to the cargo area.. Forester also provides dual SRS airbags as standard and front seats are installed with active headrests.

The XT produces 155kW at 5600 rpm, and 320Nm at 3600rpm. That’s 38 percent more power than the naturally aspirated version, and with 43 percent more torque. Transmission options remain the same for the XT as the other Forester models.

Suspension adjustments and a lower centre of gravity, along with the inherent benefits of Subaru’s symmetrical drivetrain, are claimed to improve on-road handling and performance. XT models get a more sporty suspension tune than naturally aspirated models.

All second-generation Forester models are fitted with a limited-slip differential in the rear. Yokohama Geolander tyres are standard on all models and provide plenty of grip, but are quite noisy on coarse chip bitumen.

All models, including the turbo are available with either five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. All non-turbocharged manual models feature dual-range transmission. A full-size spare wheel is standard on all models. Search Find Used Opel cars For Sale Westmeath to find a car to suit your needs.

The Jaguar XJ Series Its An Animal

Jaguar launched its first top cat XJ sedan in 1968, the name derived from the car’s codename: eXperimental Jaguar. The XJ sedan is a tour de force of Jaguar technology.

Sedan only, the XJ has previously been available with a range of six and eight cylinder engines in standard and long wheelbase bodies.. It’s constructed using rivet and epoxy bonding techniques first developed for the aerospace industry, resulting in a body that’s 40 per cent lighter and 60 per cent stiffer than before.

Features like electric seats, fast glass, remotel locking, electric mirrors & electrically adjustable steering wheel are taken for granted. Leather interior, plush carpet and high gloss wooden touches permeate the refined cabin.

Climate, audio and DVD satellite navigation are combined in the 7 inch display screen — with touch-screen capabilitiesA premium sound system with six-stack CD player and 12 speakers is standard on all models. Climate control is two-zone adjustable; a four-zone version exists on the options list.

Alloy wheels are fitted on all models, 18inch diameter on the all bar the XJR, which gets 19-inchers. Massive 20-inch wheels and tyres are optional on all models. The XJR and Super V8 get high-intensity Bi-Xenon headlights, optional on the others.

Rear park control is standard on all models, front park control is optional. Rain sensor wipers are standard; a glass electric sunroof is optional. If you haven’t guessed by now, the standard features list with Jaguar’s new XJ is long.
The accelerator and brake pedal are electrically adjustable via the steering-adjust stalkThere’s plenty of storage cubby-holes in the front and rear, along with at least 4 cupholders. At a time when an ashtray is not standard on Commodore, the XJ includes individual ashtrays in each of the four doors.

Boot-space is surprisingly good for such a low, lithe beast. It’s even better when you realise there’s a full-size spare tyre hiding beneath the floor. The new model’s higher bootlid makes a marked improvement to stowage space. Search Second Hand Peugeot Car Sales in Limerick to find the car of your dreams. Used Peugeot Cars For Sale Galway

The Daihatsu Charade Its Well Kitted

The 3-door Daihatsu Charade’s biggest single drawcard is its incredibly roomy interior - perhaps a bit narrow, but certainly capable of accommodating four adults comfortably and easily.

. It’s standard with central locking, electric windows and mirrors, CD player and a number of safety features, including dual A less obvious feature of the Charade is its build quality - a feature usually only spotted when less than optimum. Consistent fit and finish, good quality plastics throughout and durable cloth trim are the highlights, a poorly fitting floor covering in the boot the only real negative.

The 3-door Charade is a front drive hatchback powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine. It’s relatively simple fare with four valves per cylinder and two overhead camshafts. Steel block and alloy head, the engine produces 40kW of power and 88Nm of torque.

The Charade’s braking system - discs front and drums rear - also benefit substantially from the car’s light weight, giving it impressive stopping strength.

The Charade’s suspension has been designed to not only provide a good ride and handling compromise, but with minimal cabin intrusionCharade gets power steering which is road speed sensitive, to make parking easier while also giving higher stability.

.The driver’s seat adjusts for slide, the seat back for rake and the steering wheel has tilt adjust..The wing mirrors are electrically adjustable, and the rear view mirror has good vision past the rear seat headrests.

The passenger seat tilts and slides forward to improve access to the back, made even easier by the doors which open to nearly 90 degrees. Bootspace is limited with the seats up, though a 60/40 -fold allows a modicum of load carrying versatility.

Dual front airbags are standard on the Daihatsu Charade along with front seatbelt pretensioners and side intrusion bars. In addition to this the steering column is set up to collapse in a frontal crash, reducing chest injuries. Self locking doors - which lock when you move off - automatically unlock in a crash, and the car also cuts off the fuel system. The Kia Rio Its Great Value

Value for money was Kia’s big claim, with the company pointing out that the Rio was a four or five door, well equipped and had a 1.5-litre engine. Both Daewoo, and Hyundai, which now owns Kia, have also moved in a very different design direction for their entry-level hatches with the Kalos and Getz adopting taller more versatile Euro-style bodies. Visually, the car has been sharpened up at the front end with new bonnet and sheetmetal forward of the A-pillar, while the tail has also undergone some styling modifications. But it is mechanically that Kia claims the biggest improvements have been made.Bigger brakes pull the car up easily although caution is advised in the wet as they are quick to lock up and the 13-inch Hankook tyres don’t offer a great deal of grip. The stiffer body and stronger suspension does, however, mean that the ride is less comfortable. It’s average over smooth tarmac, but as soon as you get onto rougher urban roads, the car jiggles about and nearly every imperfection in the road surface can be felt through the seats. Kia claims the seats use a new variable density foam for comfort but they still feel too thin and don’t offer much support on longer trips. They are covered in a new cloth trim, which now also features on the doors, but like the rest of the interior, remain an inoffensive, but rather bland grey. Space inside is reasonable up front, with plenty of storage cubbies and good door bins, but rear headroom and especially legroom, is minimal. There is only a lap belt for the centre rear passenger. The boot is a decent size with a capacity of 269 litres that can be expanded by folding the one-piece rear seat back down.Kia’s value for money spin means that the car is reasonably well equipped and comes standard with driver airbag, air conditioning and radio/CD player Search Second Hand BMW Car Sales Wexford for a car you desire.

The Mazda RX-8 A Weekend Warrior

Forget the rest, the Mazda RX-8 will go down in history for two reasons: its Renesis rotary engine and freestyle doors, perhaps better known as suicide doors — a name marketing types cringe at in this safety conscious new century.

The RX-8 successfully blurs the line between flexible work-a-day car and weekend warrior — and answers many enthusiasts prayers for a sportscar you can really live with. The engine is mounted slightly further back in the nose in relation to the front axle than in the RX-7, which also serves to reduce inertial movement and improve mechanical grip.  It’s a two-rotor unit with 654cc each, now with 30 percent larger intake ports located on the side of the chamber, as are the exhaust ports

Six-speed manual RX-8s produce 177kW of power — down 7kW on international models due to our lower quality fuel — and 211Nm of torqueThe fact that the RX-8 has a useable — yes, useable — back seat puts it miles ahead of just about every other sports coupe on the market. Occupant comfort is pretty good; the whole cabin is arranged primarily for the driver. This means comfy, supportive bucket seats with adjustment for height and reach. The leather-wrapped, sports steering wheel is tilt adjust only.

The boot’s not a big one, but Mazda states it’ll swallow the requisite set of golf clubs, or even a couple of hard suitcases. Boot space is helped by the absence of a spare tyre,.Big four wheel disc brakes — 13in front and 12in rear — are fitted with antilock and brakeforce distribution for maximum retardation. Dynamic stability control is fitted standard and can be switched off, though it’s one of the less intrusive systems around. Rear wheel traction control is part of the DSC system.

Passive safety includes dual front airbags with dual stage inflation, front side airbags and curtain airbags front and rear.. In the event of a collision the RX-8’s central computer releases the door locks, and cuts off the fuel pump. Search Second Hand Peugeot Car Sales Laois for a car you like. The Volvo XC90 Has Everything

There’s no shortage of equipment onboard the Volvo XC90 Think electric everything and you’ll be half way there. The XC90 boasts the longest wheelbase and widest track in its class. It’s on par with Honda’s MDX in outright space, easily betters the RX330 and gives the X5 a run for its money, especially in terms of second row comfort.

The real strength of the XC90, however, is the versatility of the interior. The seven seat option also brings with it sliding second row seats that deliver additional options. Family buyers will like the child’s booster seat incorporated in the centre section of the second row, which may be slid forward to place jthe child in easy reach.

The third row folds completely out of sight for added luggage room. If your luggage requirements are still greater then you can do the same with the second row, and even the front passenger pew.WHIPS (whiplash protection), SIPS (Side Impact Protection System), ABS, DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control) and emergency brake assist are all standard equipment.

Of special interest are the mix of measures incorporated into the XC90 because of its vehicle type. Roll-over Protection System (ROPS) tackles the problem of the 4WD’s inherent high centre of gravity via electronic Roll Stability Control (RSC). The DSTC system is activated to reduce engine power and brake one or more wheels until stability is regained.

The XC90’s base five-cylinder, single-turbo engine produces 154kW of power and 320Nm of torque available through 1500-4500rpm. This unique five-cylinder powerplant is joined to a five-speed version of Volvo’s adaptive Geartronic autobox.

In normal on-road operation drive is delivered to the front wheels just like the rest of the Volvo range. However, as road conditions (grip levels, cornering load, etc) change, the new system can deliver up to 65 percent of available power to the rear wheels.Braking is via four-wheel discs with antilock and emergency assist technology. Both 17 and 18-inch wheel options are offered, the latter standard on the T6 but an option on the 2.5T. Search Second Hand Peugeot Car Sales Longford for the car of your dreams. The Smart City Coupe And Cabriolet

Cheeky looks and a clever design set the Smart City Coupe apart from the average city runabout. It may look tiny on the outside - 2.5m long by 1.51m wide, and 1.54m high - but on the inside it’s surprisingly roomy with space for two large adults. Both City Coupe and Cabrio share the same mechanical package: a rear-mounted 700cc, turbocharged, three-cylinder engine with six-speed sequential transmission.

Funky styling and upmarket appointments befit the Smart’s premium pricing. The main talking point is the interchangeable plastic body panels available in a range of vibrant colours and patternsThe Smart comes with power windows, remote central locking, leather steering wheel, air-conditioning, CD player and 15-inch alloy wheelsThe tiny engine is hooked up to a six-speed sequential transmission with a tiptronic-style gear shift lever as standardF1-style paddle shifts on the steering wheel offer a fun way to manually change gears.. Despite a slight hesitation during gear changes, we found all three transmisson modes easy to use.

The doors swing open wide for easy access to the tardis-like interior with its ample room for two occupants - but little else. The one-piece contoured seats adjust for tilt and reach, but not for height. he steering wheel is not adjustable, which meant our 190cm frame sat too high and we had to reach for the wheel.

Head, shoulder and legroom is good, though, especially on the passenger side as the seat is set further back than the driver’s. The large windscreen affords an excellent view and, together with the standard sliding glass roof on the coupe, adds to in-cabin ambience.

The electric folding cloth roof on the cabrio folds back with a push of a button and took us about a minute to unclip and stow away.Limited storage space includes room for a couple of small bags in the rear compartment and a few smaller items in the cabin.Rear drums and front disc brakes provide a competent brake package on the 730kg Smart.Passive safety includes a rigid safety cell, small crumple zones, and twin airbags. The Holden One Tonner

Holden has many versions of pick ups and cars we took a look at its one tonner and found the following. The One Tonner cabin offers enough room for two and is comfortable and spacious enough for those long hours in the saddle. Electric height adjustment for the driver’s seat and a seat tilt lever for easy access to storage area behind. A common Commodore Ute complaint is the lack of in-cabin storage which Holden addressed with 250 litres of recessed storage space, including a big glove box, door pockets and centre console bin.The dashboard is pure VY Commodore as is the reach and height adjustable wheel and stereo controls on the S we drove. There’s a commendable lack of road noise, though the tray does rattle a little from time to time.

A driver’s airbag is standard. Anti-lock brakes are standard on the S The 296mm front and 286mm rear discs feel more than up to the heavy loads a One Tonner will be carrying. Seat belts have pre tensioners and the buckles are seat mounted to ensure a consistent fit regardless of where the seat is on the tracks. Side rearward vision is a bit restricted by the tray but a set of Cobargo Pub mirrors would soon solve that.

The One Tonner is essentially the monocoque front half of the sedan/ute and a sturdy separate chassis rear with an aluminium tray. Holden achieves what it claims is a very rigid installation by bolting two vertical uprights at the front of the chassis frame to the rear of the cab, instead of welding it in place.Like the other Commodore ute, this one’s built on the long wheelbase that spans the Statesman/Caprice. At 5230mm it’s 37mm longer than the Statesman, which could make tight manoeuvring a bit more difficult, but trade-offs must be made for carrying capacity. Each of the Cab Chassis variants come with a choice of three trays, including a hardwood floor, so there is something for everyone. The Honda MDX 4×4

The MDX debuts Honda’s 4WD system, a part-time configuration dubbed Variable Torque Management Four-wheel drive (VTM-4). The system uses a computer-controlled rear differential to deliver drive to the rear On wet or icy roads the system can deliver 30 percent more torque to the rear wheels than Honda’s previous set up as seen on CR-V. When the going gets really slippery the rear differential can be locked to deliver maximum drive to each wheel. Fit, finish and comfort inside is first class, which won’t surprise Honda fans There’s acres of space in the luggage compartment With seating set for five, because the third row of seats folds perfectly flat into the floor

There’s little in the way of superfluous detailing inside the MDX save for the large (seven-inch) Centre Display Screen (CDS) and timber style console and door detailing..

Standard equipment sunroof, high quality six-speaker six-disc CD stereo and power everything else all contribute to make the MDX cabin a great place to spend time.

In terms of protection, the MDX’s unitary structure incorporates front side and rear crumple zones, and is arguably safer than the separate chassis layout some 4WDs still use. Dual-threshold front airbags protect the MDX’s front occupants, and sense and adjust deployment speeds dependent on whether front seat belts are being worn or not. Up front side bags are also a standard fitment. Top marks too, for the seven (count ‘em) lap/sash seat belts. Its engine is a 3.5-litre V6 with V-TEC variable valve timing boasting a healthy 191kW. As is often the case with modern mills, there’s a swag of acronyms to keep the technically-minded happy. The outcome of all the technical trickery is a willing and refined powerplant that has adequate low-rpm urge. The five-speed automatic gearbox (no manual option offered) is silky smooth but misses out on any tiptronic-style quasi-manual mode. ABS-equipped four-wheel disc brakes, torque-sensing power steering, traction and stability control are on the checklist.Search Find Used Renault Cars For Sale Sligo to find a car you like. The Mitsubishi Triton Sports Truck

Sports trucks like the Mitsubishi Triton GLS are becoming more popular among recreational users with a need for comfort, style, and occasional two-diff operation. The upholstery is a relaxing two-tone grey velour. Central locking, remote-entry, chrome mirrors and fender flares are standard. So are sports-cloth seat trim, an AM/FM radio and CD unit, childproof rear door locks and side door intrusion Like its competitors, the Triton warns you if you’ve left the key in the ignition or left the vehicle with the headlights on.

The sports seats have plenty of adjustability, although they do seem firmer than those in the Ford Courier and for that reason are not quite as comfortable. The steering wheel is tilt-adjustable and the controls fall easily to hand, although it does seem odd that when the slide-out drink holder is extended it blocks access to the radio controls.

The Triton diesel vibrates noticeably at low speeds during suburban running, and engine noise intrudes into the cab more than expected. Cabin glass is tintedThe GLS is a five-seater but putting three adults in the rear will again highlight the lack of rear legroom in any sports. .Four-wheel drive Tritons have larger drum and disc brakes, and a more powerful tandem booster than the lighter 2WD trucks. All Tritons have a load sensing apportioning valve on the rear brake set to ensure reliable braking regardless of the load size a proven safety feature, particularly in severe weather conditions.
Standard equipment on all 4WD models is the five-speed manual Õbox. There’s an auto option for the GLS double cab petrol but not for 4×4 models. Auto free-wheeling hubs are standard. Turbocharging has made a world of difference and you can feel it. Torque is plentiful, and the vehicle has no trouble keeping up with petrol powered freeway traffic at legal speeds. Oddly enough, it’s also quieter at 110km/h than crawling through suburbia. The ride on rough country roads is excellent and the handling feels safe and predictable.
